Curriculum Resources

The resource requirements of the Arts World Wide curriculum are considerable. They include classrooms, a library, and instructional materials, equipment, and technology.

Provided the visual arts, social studies, and language arts teachers team teach the curriculum as suggested in the Teaching the Curriculum section, the curriculum will make use of art, social studies, and language arts classrooms. The school library will also serve as a critical resource. The layout, decor, lighting, temperature, and noise levels of these facilities should contribute toward the creation of environments which are conducive to learning.

Teachers should use high-quality reading materials that will contribute toward student achievement of the curriculum objectives. Teachers are encouraged to select customized collections of readings, including selections from the school’s library, for use in the units on art media. Students will need access to a variety of quality art materials, supplies, and equipment to create two- and three-dimensional works of art.

Instructional technology plays a vital role in the Arts World Wide curriculum. Several networked computers are needed for instruction, art production, and information access and retrieval. The computers should be equipped with CD-ROM drives and have sufficient processing speed and memory to run high-end graphics programs. Pressure-sensitive drawing tablets for use with computer software that simulates natural media are desirable. A color scanner for digitizing images is also desirable. Access to the Internet, including the World Wide Web, from each computer is critical. Utilizing a server computer to upload the students’ artworks and papers on the Web also is desirable.

Other instructional media and materials that should be available include:

  • Overhead projector and transparencies
  • LCD projection panel or projector
  • Slide projector, carousel, and 35mm slides
  • VCR and videocassettes
  • Laserdisc player and laserdiscs
  • 35mm camera and film
